Technical environment:Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 (Full and Core mode installations) including Active Directory Domain Services, Solution Accelerator for Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) 2008, Windows Server Update Services, Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack for Software Assurance and Advanced Group Policy Management, Microsoft Exchange 2007, Microsoft Office Communication Server 2007, Systems Center Configuration Manager, Systems Center Operations Manager, ForeFront Client Security, Microsoft 2007 Office system.Responsibilities:
  • Technical Lead for the Humber Mental Health (Teaching) NHS Trust infrastructure refresh project.
  • Design and deploy the new Windows Server 2008 Active Directory using Core Installation mode and primarily residing on VMWare. This was designed using the NHS CUI Guidance that has been produced by Microsoft and Connecting for Health (CfH).
  • Produce a standard Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 build using the NHS customised version of the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) 2008.
  • Implement the Genesis RKeyTec product for a near instant secure and optimised Active Directory implementation including Role Based Authority.
  • Design and deploy the use of Advanced Group Policy Management from the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) to provide a workflow process for Group Policies and ensure the policies are editing in only an offline state.
  • Manage multiple consultants undertaking their specific technology skill set ensuring all solutions meet the customer requirements and are delivered within time and budget.
  • Design and deploy the Microsoft 2007 Office system as part of the MDT 2008 build and to use the Office Migration Planning Manager (OMPM) to analyse the Office based files within the old environment in readiness for conversion to the new file format.
Software/Consultancy Services Technology Best-Practice GuidanceJuly 2006 - present
Technical environment:All current and previous versions of the Windows operating system from Windows 9x and Windows NT4 through to Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2003 including Active Directory, Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment, Windows Server Update Services, Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack for Software Assurance and Advanced Group Policy Management.Responsibilities:
  • Develop add-on enhancements to the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) 2008 to enable even quicker adoption of Microsoft Deployment. This provides customers with faster deployment of current client and server operating systems as build development time has been dramatically reduced.
  • Carry out on-site demonstrations and pilot the current best-practice guidance produced in a number of different technology scenarios with the company's customers.
  • Produce current Microsoft best-practice guidance on Active Directory Migration. The migration guidance includes detailed information to migrate to Active Directory from Windows NT 4.0 domains, Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003 Active Directory domains, and Novell NetWare (Bindery, NetWare Directory Services (NDS) and eDirectory).
  • Produce current Microsoft best-practice guidance on Active Directory Design and Deployment. The guidance pulls together multiple publicly available information sources plus experience in producing multiple detailed Active Directory designs for different infrastructure scenarios.
  • Manage Early Adopters of best-practice guidance by assisting in the implementation and testing of the guidance covering Group Policy for Desktop Management, Business Desktop Deployment (BDD), Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and desktop deployment using Ghost Solution Suite
  • Produce current Microsoft best-practice guidance on Group Policy Design for Desktop Management. The guidance includes recommendations for Organisational Unit design to prepare for implementing Group Policy objects (GPOs), specifies best-practice usage on GPO to ensure maximum effect and minimum administration. The guidance also includes Advanced Group Policy Management, Microsoft Office 2003 and the 2007 Office System, Windows Vista, and Bitlocker to include backing up to Active Directory.
Architectural Zero Touch Installation (ZTI) SolutionJune 2006 - July 2006
Technical environment:Windows XP Pro (SP1) Zero Touch Deployment mechanism to now utilise Business Desktop Deployment; Bootable CD, Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Operating System Deployment (OSD) Feature Pack and Remote Installation Services (RIS) to be used as OS deployment methods.Responsibilities:
  • Redevelop current scripted build for multiple current and new desktops/laptops for deployment using the Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) 2.5 using best practice approach
Banking ATM Application RefreshApril 2006 - July 2006
Technical environment:2000+ Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) running Windows XP Professional requiring legacy application replacement.Responsibilities:
  • Installed set of applications do not have a correctly operating unattended uninstall mechanism and as such needed to produce a script that ensures successful removal as part of the pre-requisites to the new applications
  • Create an installation wrapper in VBScript that controls multiple software package installs which do not allow suppressing of reboots and hides all processing from a user of the ATM
  • Ensure wrapper is deliverable via SMS2003 and reports back the status correctly
Banking Windows Server RefreshJuly 2005 - March 2006
Technical environment:Windows 2000 Server / XP Client Refresh Migration across 600+ remote sites; Unattended Windows 2000 Server and XP Client clone-able images, Windows Server 2003.Responsibilities:
  • Re-develop the current unattended RIS builds for use on new Dell PowerEdge servers
  • Development of the current unattended RIS build for servers and clients into a clone-able solution using Computacenter Config Centre
  • Produce Windows Server 2003 detailed design for Retail Branches
  • Produce Windows Server 2003 unattended RIS and clone build
  • Co-design Migration processes with internal consultant using previous experience and best practice methods

  • Finalise design upgrade process for 3 Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 domains to a single Windows Server 2003 Active Directory domain ensuring continued access and authentication from Windows 95, 98, NT4, 2K, and XP clients
  • Produce a design migration process for additional external Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 domain into the single Windows Server 2003 Active Directory domain including approx 100 workstations and 150 users utilising ADMT scripting
  • Upgrade NT 4.0 domains to Windows Server 2003 AD (including to forest and domain functional levels) and Migrate additional NT 4.0 domain using overnight scripting in 1 day
